Catherine & Craig Tango Connection Workshop – February 29th, 2020

The theme of the two classes is deepening the conversation in the dance. Class 1: Connection and Collaboration Connection and Collaboration will help leaders and followers deepen their abilities to be aware of their partner, improvise with each other and the music, and deepen somatic communication through games and exercises. Class 2: Awareness and Agency Expanding on the Connection and Collaboration class, Awareness and Agency explores pivots, pasadas, and the molinete in the context of deepening the conversation between leaders and followers. We will look at how pivots can be an avenue of expression for followers, a variety of entrances into the pasada, leaders and followers using different rhythms in the molinete. We’re excited to welcome Catherine Young and Craig Rypstat in Iowa, they’ll share their vision of Argentine social tango in a refreshing and unpretentious way.

Jesica Arfenoni- World Tango Champion 2013 & Adam Cornett- US Champion will be sharing their talents with us this November. Jesica learned from the famous teachers in Argentina and she was part of many dance Companies, “Tango mas Tango”, “tango Viaje al Sentimiento,” Ballet Folklorico Neuhen Aunquen” among them. She has been teaching and performing around the world for more than 8 years. She is a very experienced dancer and instructor, with a very distinctive and unique style.
Adam Cornett has a deep and varied background in kinesthetics and movement that he applies to his dancing, ranging from study in the martial arts, to formal education in the fields of medicine and massage therapy. His teaching style is grounded and tactile, as he experiences tango as a physical, reactionary dance. His aim is to make the dance feel good, as well as look good. He encourages his students to be creative, inventive, playful, and musical, as these are the qualities he cherishes most about tango.
